What Can It Power?
The Generac 5982 GP3250 provides a frequency of 60 hertz and an A/C voltage of 120/240. The output is 3,250 watts with a maximum of up to 3,750.
This is enough to power some of your most-used appliances. At home, it can run your security system, computer, mini-fridge, etc. The generator is also capable of powering portable stereos, electric grills, circular saws, outdoor lights, and much more.
Before buying, calculate the wattage requirements of your devices. Then, compare this to the output of the Generac GP3250. This will ensure you get a generator that meets your energy needs.
What Can’t It Power?
The Generac GP3250 is quite powerful for a portable generator. An output of 3,250 watts should be plenty for your camping trip or at-home power outage. However, please be careful not to plug in too many devices as it will burn out the engine.
Additionally, you should realize that this generator is not ideal for powering sensitive electronics. It has a total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 20%. This is quite high and may cause damage to your phone, laptop, etc.
So, if you need a generator for powering sensitive electronics, we would recommend getting a different model.
Generac GP3250 Warranty
Generac backs this product with a 2-year limited warranty. So, if you come across any problems with the generator, Generac may cover parts and/or labor.
Generac offers great customer and technical support. You can contact their team, 24/7/365. Customers can either call the number 888-GENERAC (888-436-3722) or submit a form through the website’s “Contact Us” page.
The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to assist. You can also consult Generac.com for manuals, FAQs, and other helpful information.
Here are some of the main reasons we love the Generac GP3250:
Small and Compact
The GP3250 weighs over 100 pounds. Yes, this is a little heavy for a portable generator.
But, its compact design makes it seem much smaller. It is tiny enough to fit into tight spaces and won’t take up too much room. This makes it the perfect size for tailgating, camping, and power tool use.
Portable Generator Generac GP3250
Aside from saving on storage space, this generator’s compact design makes it easy to transport. It isn’t too cumbersome and comes with a convenient folding handle. You can wheel it over pretty much any terrain thanks to the never-flat wheels.
Every part of this unit was designed with durability and strength in mind.
For instance, the never-flat wheels can withstand any terrain. They are built-to-last and will never need to be filled up.
The steel fuel tank is also very sturdy. Its strong construction and large capacity provide both durability and extended run times.
Hardened Steel Tube Cradle
For even more protection, the whole unit sits in a hardened steel tube cradle. This provides protection from the elements and ensures longevity.
Compared to similar products, the Generac GP3250 has a relatively high output (especially when considering the price). It is enough to power common household and outdoor appliances.
Large Steel Fuel Tank
The large steel fuel tank provides both durability and extended run times. It holds enough gas to operate for 9.7 hours at 50% load. This means you can go pretty much the whole day without having to refill.
Built-In Fuel Gauge
You’ll know when it’s time to refill thanks to the built-in fuel gauge. This will eliminate guesswork and help you stay on top of gas refills. The fuel gauge also lets you know when there is a low oil level.
Powerful and Efficient OHV Engine
The 206-cc OHV engine is just what you need in a portable generator. It provides plenty of wattage for the price you pay.
It also comes with plenty of safeguards. For instance, when it detects low oil, it will automatically shut down to protect the engine from damage.
The splash lubrication and a high-performance alternator are two other helpful features. They ensure smooth and efficient operation. Additionally, the four 120-volt outlets come with circuit-breaker protection. This ensures reliable performance by preventing the circuit breaker from overloading.
The GP3250 generator has plenty of perks. It is powerful, convenient, & provides durability and strength. However, the product has a few drawbacks that might concern you.
The GP3250 weighs over 100 pounds. While it is easy to wheel around, it is too heavy for one person to comfortably lift.
It’s Not Ideal for Sensitive Electronics
This generator has a THD of less than 20%. If we compare this to other products, we can see that this is relatively high. Too high, in fact, to safely power sensitive electronics. Please do not use this generator to charge your phones, laptops, etc.
It Doesn’t Have a Data Center
The GP3250 is relatively affordable. But, considering its price, we think it should at least come with an LED data center. Similar products have data centers that display important information like run time, watt output, etc.
It’s Not CARB-Compliant
The GP3250 is an EPA-compliant product. It also comes with a spark arrestor that makes it suitable for use in forests.
However, the generator is not CARB-compliant. In California, you cannot legally purchase generators that are not CARB-compliant. So, if you live in California, you should opt for a generator that is CARB-compliant.
It Only Runs on Gasoline
This portable generator is not a dual-fuel generator. It only runs on regular diesel.
If we compare it to dual-fuel products, we can see that it is not nearly as efficient. Models that operate on a combo of diesel and natural gas provide longer run times.
There aren’t many online reviews of this product. On Amazon.com, for instance, the product only has 20 global reviews. It does not have 5 stars mainly because of problems with shipping (oil spilled during transit, etc.).
When it comes to the generator’s functioning, however, most users give the product 5 stars on review sites. They tout it as the perfect size for tailgating, camping, and power tool use. They also like that it’s easy to use operate and claim that the price is more than fair.

What Can I Run on a 3250-Watt Generator?
A 3,250-watt generator is capable of running devices like mini-fridges, outdoor lights, electric trimmers, and more. You should check the wattage requirements of your devices before plugging them in.
Note that the GP3250 has a continuous wattage of 3,250 watts, but the maximum it can produce is 3,750 starting watts. This allows it to start motor-driven appliances that require an extra boost to turn on.
Are Generac Generators Any Good?
Generac is a well-known manufacturer. It has been around for over 60 years and produces its generators in the U.S.
Its portable generators are well-made and come at an affordable price. They have 5 stars across many review sites.
There’s no doubt that Generac’s products are convenient, powerful, and operate efficiently. You can rely on its generators for most of your on-the-go energy needs.
What Size Generator Do You Need to Power a House?
In the event of an unexpected outage, the GP3250 can power your home. It’s capable of running important devices like mini-fridges, security systems, etc.
However, this portable generator may not be able to run all of these devices at once. You may want something with a higher watt output (5,000 to 7,500 W). They come at a higher price but may be worth the increased flexibility.
How Many Hours Does a Generac Generator Last?
It depends on what model you have and how often you use it.
The GP3250, for instance, should last you several years. It is well-made and will stand up to the elements. And, features like splash lubrication and low-oil level shutdown protect the engine from damage.
